Courtesy Notice Equifax Breach Information

You may have heard the news that Equifax recently had a large breach in its data collected from 143 million consumers. Based on the company’s investigation, the unauthorized access exploited a U.S. website application vulnerability to gain access to certain files. The breach occurred from mid-May through July, 2017.

We are pro-actively notifying you, our valued members - if you are one of the 44% of U.S. consumers affected by the Equifax breach, you may take the proper precautions to safeguard your personal information.

Equifax has dedicated a website, www.equifaxsecurity2017.com, to help consumers determine if their information has been potentially impacted. You will be asked to enter your last name and the last six digits of your social security number. Equifax is offering free credit monitoring services for one year – be sure to signup if you’ve been impacted. You will be given a date to enroll, since the enrollment is set on a rolling schedule. Please mark your calendar when you get the date to enroll so you are reminded to sign up for this valuable service. The enrollment period ends on Tuesday, November 21, 2017.

If you have questions about the breach, you can go to the Frequently Asked Questions on the www.equifaxsecurity2017.com website, or contact their call center at 866-477-7559. The call center is open every day, including weekends from 7:00 a.m. – 1 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.

Equifax will also be sending direct mail notices to consumers whose credit card numbers or dispute documents with personally identifying information were impacted. Equifax has engaged a leading, independent cyber security firm to conduct an assessment and provide recommendations on steps that can be taken to prevent this type of incident from happening again.

BPFCU is committed to being proactive about information security for all members.
